Polish Jew partisan fighter Boris Jochai played an important role in Jewish resistance activities by planting dynamite on railroad tracks to blow up German trains traveling through Lithuania. The Nazis used the railroad system as a powerful tool for the infrastructure of the Final Solution. Over a million people were employed to run the train system to carry out the transport of war materials and the cruel deportations of Jews. Jochai later expressed: “In 1942 I left Swieciany for the surrounding forests…My purpose was to survive and fight the invader…to demolish the railroads and deprive the enemy of supplies arriving to the front.”
